2018 First Quarter Update

God is at work drawing missionaries to participate in His Mission! Thomas and Elizabeth Manual are new candidates preparing to head to Guatemala were Jesus Christ is drawing whole communities of Mayans into His Holy Church.  We met a year ago at OCMCs Evaluation Retreat (ER) for applicants.   Last week, I met the six participants in the first ER of 2018.  I can’t help but wonder who among them I will introduce you to next year as new candidates?

God is also at work in my research on missionary resiliency.  I hoped for 100 responses to my survey, but received over 1,100.  It’s an incredibly diverse sample: 38 nationalities serving in 98% of the world by UN Region.  They represent every major branch of Christianity and range in age from 21 to 91.

I launched the second phase, a written interview, on Western Good Friday because through His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ is the Resilient One and our resiliency is a participation in His resiliency. Join me in praying that the Holy Spirit would guide them to know and share the truth of their experience (John 16:13).  I’ll be analyzing the data until I graduate on May 19th, then I’ll spend the summer preparing the results for publication.

I’m so grateful for those who sustain us through their faithful intersessions, financial gifts, and encouragement so that we can support missionaries like the Manuals to have long, fruitful, and resilient ministries.

With gratitude in the Resilient and Resurrected Christ,

Geoff Whiteman
