When life gets stressful and you get overwhelmed, do you get out of sync with one another and your relationship stops being a source of support and starts to become a source of stress?
It happens to a lot of us and maybe it’s happening to you.
This is especially true for couple preparing for and in ministry because seminary and ministry places unique demands on families. We know because we’ve been there.
What if you knew how to turn toward each other and approach the demands you’re facing together instead of being divided by them? What if you could stay connected when life gets busy?
Becoming One is a six-week relationship enriching workshop. Each week you’ll learn new skills that will help you:
truly listen and communicate well;
transform conflict from being destructive to becoming constructive;
face ongoing problems in ways that honor the deepest concerns and values you each have;
make lifestyle changes that last and support your spouse’s growth in ways they appreciate;
and make a plan to keep investing in your relationship no matter how busy this season of life is.
When you invest in your relationship through Becoming One, you’ll gain confidence and hope that you have the skills to continue to grow together for a lifetime of love.
That’s because we make the skills easy to grasp by modeling them. Then we give you activities to practice that help you uncover the goodness that first brought you together. Each night you’ll leave knowing how you can apply what you just learned that week.
While practical and skill based, the workshop also draws on decades of sound research by the Gottmans and our Christian conviction that two unique people can become one (without becoming the same).
While Geoff is trained as a marriage and family therapist, we’re passionate about this material because it transformed us and our marriage. So since 2014, we’ve been helping scores of couples every year move from being distracted and divided by the demands of life toward being united together and facing those demands as a team. We'd like to help you learn to do the same, just as we helped these couples:
“This has given me confidence in being able to share how I feel in a constructive way. This has been super helpful! Thank you!”
“Coming into this workshop, I felt overwhelmed and exhausted and unmotivated from life. My hope was to leave with rejuvenation and direction, armed with a new attitude and a plan for the issues my husband and I face. This workshop was precisely what I needed. Kriss and Geoff’s gift of time and devotion to sharing these skills with us breathed new life into our marriage and helped me to feel invigorated to take what I learned home and begin practicing!”
“I discovered feelings and concerns for both myself and my husband that I didn’t even know were there, and found a healthy way to address them.”
Through our experience, we’ve found that this workshop is ideal for couples who are:
Feeling the strain of a new or demanding season of life;
committed to approaching life as a team; and
able to invest 12 hours into their marriage in September and October.
If that’s you, our next Becoming One workshop meets in Wilmore, KY at Asbury Seminary on Thursday Nights from 6-8 pm and runs from September 12 through October 24 (no class 10/10). Thanks to the generosity of the Office of Community Formation, Childcare is provided and this workshop is steeply discounted to $50 per a couple.
Because space is limited and this workshop fills up fast, you are strongly encouraged to register today.
